Purpose
I see therapy as a space and support for moving deeper into connection— with parts of ourselves; of mind with body; with others; with the world; with a sense of meaning, purpose, and wonder … I see therapy as helping to reconnect our familiar stories and ways of responding with the contexts they arise from, so that we can recognize what shaped and shapes us, and what we choose to keep or change. Therapy can connect the wounds we carry with overdue tenderness and care. It can support our emergence into joy and wellbeing that we’ve lost or never had full access to. It helps us to connect with what we truly love and who we truly are.
I believe that wellbeing has infinite faces and facets, so there are infinite ways in. As a therapist, I offer my experience and care to support your finding the landscape you choose to explore and your own paths and ways of moving.
In the reality of this moment, as the world burns and floods, as violent systems consolidate power, I engage in therapy as a practice of hope*. I believe that wellbeing is possible because connection and love are possible. And I believe that emerging into wellbeing is sacred work because truly healing ourselves is never separate from healing the world.
* Mariame Kaba teaches that hope is a discipline.
